The Breakthrough Prize is a set of international awards, bestowed in mathematics, fundamental physics and life sciences by the Breakthrough Prize Board in recognition of scientific advances. It was founded in 2012 by Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, and Yuri and Julia Milner, and is sponsored by personal foundations established by its founders along with Ma Huateng and Jack Ma. Laureates receive three million dollars each and are chosen by committees of previous laureates from candidates nominated in an online process open to the public.
