The London School of Economics was founded in 1895 by members of the Fabian Society to advance the study of society, and its anthropology teaching became the center of British social anthropology through the early twentieth century. Bronislaw Malinowski taught there from 1913 and held its first chair in social anthropology from 1927, running a seminar that trained most of the next generation of British anthropologists; A.R. Radcliffe-Brown also taught there earlier in his career.
