Satyendra Nath Bose

Satyendra Nath Bose, lecturing at the University of Dhaka in 1924, derived Planck's law of blackbody radiation using a new way of counting how identical particles of light could be arranged, without relying on classical physics at all. When journals declined his paper, Albert Einstein translated it into German himself, arranged its publication, and extended the method to particles of matter. The statistics the two of them built are now called Bose-Einstein statistics, and the particle class it describes is named the boson in his honor.
