William Henry Bragg (1862 to 1942) was an English physicist who, working with his son William Lawrence Bragg, built the X-ray spectrometer that turned von Laue's diffraction effect into a systematic method for locating atoms inside a crystal. Father and son shared the 1915 Nobel Prize in Physics for founding X-ray crystallography, the technique materials science still uses to solve crystal structures.
