The Linguistic Society of America is a professional association founded in New York City on 28 December 1924 to advance the scientific study of language in the United States. Leonard Bloomfield was among its founders and served as its president in 1935. The society publishes the journal Language, among others, and has run a biennial Linguistic Institute offering advanced training to linguists since 1928.
